Sarkar is a Indian 2014 Indian Bengali-language film written and directed by Biswanath Basu. It stars Dev, Amitabh Bachchan as his dying father, and Vidya Balan as his pregnant mother. The music was composed by A.R Rahman. The film tells the story of a local don, Prasenjit Sarkar, who rises from being a teenager in the slums to being the most powerful Don in Kolkata. The film is loosely based on the life of Subhash Ghai. The film is about Prashant Sarkar (Dev), who grows up in the slums of Kolkata with his mother Mamata (Vidya Balan) and brother Kalu (Soham Chakraborty). His father is in prison. Prashant doesn't want to follow his father's path and becomes a doctor, but when his family is attacked by his father's rivals he picks up arms against all odds to take revenge. Dev is an Indian film actor, who has appeared in several Hindi films. He made his debut in the 2007 film "Gangster" directed by Anurag Basu. He followed it with a series of low-budget films, before earning acclaim for his performance in the commercially successful 2012 action drama "Zila Ghaziabad". Dev went on to win the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut for his work in "Gangster" and garnered two Filmfare nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his performances in "Zilla Ghaziabad" and Sudhir Mishra's "Chaalis Chauraasi". He has also featured in the commercially successful films "Raaz 2" (2006), "Housefull" (2010), "Quick Gun Murugan" (2011), "Housefull 2" (2012) and "Dabangg 2" (2012). Sarkar is a remake of Telugu film Leader starring Balakrishna. Soundtrack of the film was composed by A. R. Rahman with lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, Tanveer Ghazi, Kabir Suman & Kausar Munir. The music rights were acquired by T-Series. The film's Tollywood release was on May 16th 2014 . In Kolkata Sarkar is a hit, Secunder Kader has been credited with the quality of the film.
